A new blog is now live on our website featuring some very exciting news about one of the 2015 Manton Bay juveniles πŸ‘‰

This year S2(15) has bred for the very first time on a nest site within the Biesbosch National Park, after pairing up with a German female and is successfully raising three chicks! It is not the first year that S2(15) has been sighted in the Netherlands. He has been seen in the Netherlands every year since 2017 and last year he spent the spring and summer months of 2019 near Zwolle, about 70 miles (113 km) East of Amsterdam.

Maya brings in a trout and is followed by one of the youngsters who shares the fishy feast. Our four fledglings will soon be off on their first migration and we think that two may have already left - 080 and 082 have not been seen at the nest site for a couple of days, we will. of course, keep you updated with any developments.

At 07:51 33(11) delivered another good-sized Trout and was greeted by 081 who promptly began his morning feast. 20 minutes later Maya flew in and stole the Trout - though she will need to be eating more to build up her own food reserves ready for her migration! It was also nice to see 080 back on the nest.

some old news

Rutland Osprey Project :
This year, 26 adult ospreys returned within the vicinity of Rutland, we had eight successful pairs of ospreys, who raised an amazing 19 chicks between them! This takes the total number of chicks to fledge from Rutland nest sites, since the first successful breeding attempt in 2001, to 188. Will we make it to 200 next year?

We don't know where he is now, but hopefully he has continued to have a successful migration.

Enjoy the moment Maya and 33(11) reunite for the first time in just over 6 months!
You can of course rewind to that moment via our live webcam which includes the audio by visiting www.lrwt.org.uk/rutlandospreys! There is a timestamp at the bottom left hand corner to help you navigate. 33(11) returned at 12:29 and Maya at approx. 12:52.

SilverGirl

https://www.lrwt.org.uk/rutlandospreys/ ... nd-ospreys
The osprey nest in Manton Bay has been in use since 2007 by different osprey pairings, but has been occupied since 2010 by the same female bird - an unringed Scottish female, nicknamed 'Maya'.

Maya arrived in the summer of 2009, and spent the summer bonding with a Rutland-fledged male osprey, 32(05). The pair did not breed, but both returned in 2010. Unfortunately, in 2010 two male ospreys went missing from Rutland, and 32(05) was one of them. Left alone, Maya began to look elsewhere for a mate, and she came across Manton Bay and a male osprey, 5R(04). At the time, Maya did not have a name. She was always referred to as the Manton Bay Female. Over the next few seasons, it was decided it would be easier to talk and write about her, and for people to relate to her if she had a name. Eventually we settled on Maya. Not only is it a lovely name, but it contains the first and last two letters in Manton Bay, and comes from the Greek Maia, who was the goddess of spring.
