Make new from old.

The food carcass is probably a block of ice by now and also covered in snow.
Yesterday we saw that some visitors such as jays, eagles and titmice were able to take a few bites with effort.

Today there was supplies.
Sweeping, chopping... thawing through air circulation... layering with new carcass.

Golden Eagle - Wild Bucovina/Romania

December 20th

The camera often doesn't work for days. Is very dependent on sun...
But today she shows us Caliman, who lost his strong partner Lucina a few weeks ago.

A young female makes advances towards him.
She was already there at the time of Lucina's death.

Try again and again to see if the stream is running:

Good morning Liz and everyone!

He not only lifts it, but later carries it into the forest. Proud as a dog with a stick.

If we look shamelessly - a male. He also marks several times again.

Btw: I always record with sound. Except for some slow motion videos. Because in these cases the sound is unpleasantly distorted and it's mostly about the visual representation.

Here in this stream you can sometimes hear something - sometimes not. I don't know what it is.
Sounds can also be heard in my recording last night. Albeit quieter and without noise. But to hear.

Review December 22nd

Hello everyone!

The wolverines appear to be in a feeding coma. The large piece that was taken into the forest appears to be still a work in progress.
Or did they catch new, fresh prey?
During the winter months, wolverines can hunt silently (in the snow). Your prey, apart from mice, rabbits and young reindeer, elk and lynx, is in the prey list.

So no wolverine yet...

However, the golden eagles continue to accept the food offer well.
Two ringed golden eagles appeared one after the other.

I think their plumage is very similar but the ring on the left leg seems clearer on the second visitor. :puzzled:

There are moments when fragments of the ring are clearly visible.

An eagle can be heard continuously from 10:13 onwards, throughout. Until 10:29 approximately

The shouts sound further away. Only the strong calls penetrate well.
With headphones, the entire call range can then be heard.

The calls sounded urgent.
I didn't make a video because you can't hear them in their entirety without headphones.

Our @ame is active in the chat there. Maybe she can explain some of the information here, which is mostly written in Finnish?

For example, Mathias wrote (in essence) that the calls mean that a breeding site has been found/reached and this was announced by the calls.

I don't want to misrepresent anything. Translation using apps can often be confusing.

In fact, these calls were long-lasting.

While the eagle is eating, calls from a second eagle can be heard from 12:27.
She listens but continues to eat.

The calls in the background continue.

12:36 The golden eagle is attacked

A second jumps out from between the trees.

It's cleared up (for now).
The lightning attack is over. Lost to the attacker. The calls have also stopped now.

The magpies return from their hiding places...

(I'm finishing the posts this evening with a breakdown of all the visits and calls. I have to go to work now.)

December 24th

Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄🌟

Also visiting the Golden Eagles today.

Definitely ringed. I assume both legs. But the left ring (if) is not the one that can be clearly seen. I assume there are two golden eagles here that are ringed on both sides.

Image

Oh, I don't know. It's confusing here. :faint:
Nevertheless, it is better to have more of these rarities than too few.

Good evening everyone :hi:

Visitors of their kind are declining.
Goshawks haven't been in a long time, Bubo bubo hasn't been in many days and the Wolverines also seem to have moved on. Or do they have better hunting success due to the (now) good snow cover and prefer fresh prey?

But there are not too many jays, magpies, titmice and golden eagles.
Of which I can't say how many there really are. I would say a couple and a loner?

No visitors on December 25th

▪︎▪︎▪︎
December 26th a short visit.
Interesting chain across the chest. (No scar, right?)
Maybe I haven't paid enough attention to it so far. Maybe the rings seem too intrusive to us.

December 30th

Metal rings on both legs.
At the end of the visit the eagle became restless. Magpies complain...

Just an almost visit.
Settles down behind the camera with noise.

Most of the visitors to the feeder at the moment are the jays.

Eagle owl no longer, goshawk still no more and the wolverines are no longer very active either. (2 nights ago again briefly to spend most of the time digging and marking.)

Golden Eagle
She's a beauty. She stays for almost half an hour.

Clearly visible silver rings. Not readable.

Their tail feathers are like a colorful bouquet of flowers. I am not familiar with golden eagles in detail even though I adore these birds. Therefore I can't "read" their tail feathers. @Liz or others can do it well.
