We have beavers at Cors Dyfi, finally 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

https://www.facebook.com/northwaleswild ... 0503632238
The #beavers are here! We’re delighted to announce that a pair of beavers (father & son) were released by @IoloWilliams2 into #CorsDyfi on Friday. The pair were sourced under licence from @NatureScot by Dr Roisin Campbell-Palmer and they had a long journey from @FiveSistersZoo to Wales on Friday. The beavers were very relaxed as they arrived at their new home and they have been settling in over the weekend.
The mother will follow soon and re-join her family in a few weeks.
A special thank you to @FiveSistersZoo for health screening the beavers and to Dr Roisin Campbell-Palmer for sourcing and transporting the beavers all the way from Scotland for #CorsDyfi.

Beavers are coming!
We are really excited to find out that one of the #beavers coming to #CorsDyfi Nature Reserve soon is a black morph individual.
These black morph beavers are much rarer, especially in Britain. This beaver is the father to the other beaver that will soon be with us. We hope to bring the whole family down from Scotland in due course.

A visit from Aeron (Z2), Dyfi chick 2017.
A few minutes after Aran returned with a freshly caught mullet at 11:49, Aeron (Z2) landed on the nest next to Mrs G. The three ospreys remained on the nest for nearly an hour, showing no aggression towards each other, before Aran decided to chase away their visitor. He made sure to bring the remains of his fish to Mrs G before proceeding to escort Aeron from the nest area.

It's fairly common for the Dyfi ospreys to be attacked by barn owls, but we think this is a Short-eared owl at 04:54 this morning?
Short-eared owls are fairly common on the reserve in the winter but usually move to the uplands or further away to breed in the spring; maybe this individual is breeding close-by or just didn't get the memo!
Although the attack looks quite brutal, the owl species we have in Wales pose no real threat to the much larger osprey 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
EDIT: Owl now confirmed as Long-eared owl. Diolch Iolo.

It's not been Telyn's happiest few days to be honest.
On Saturday she gets fish-slapped, and now it's an owl-slap from Barney...

Ladies....
Have you ever sent your partner out for a Saturday fish supper, only for him to return and not hand it over to you?
And then, to make matters worse, he slaps you 'round the head with it?
Of course not.
Doesn't happen with ospreys either.

BREAKING NEWS!
Merin (Dyfi 2015) you may remember returned as an adult to Jutland, Denmark to breed.
His nest failed there and we've just received news that he is back in the UK and looking for a new nest site!
He's at an undisclosed location in the Lake District.
Good luck, mate 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

A lot of you are messaging us at the moment and asking questions about Blue 24.
She has been breeding at Llyn Brenig (around 40 miles away) for the last three years (2018 - 2020), but she has not been sighted this year and neither has her mate, Blue HR7, as far as we know.
The chances of a both individuals of an osprey pair not returning the following year is around 100:1 - so this is a possibility.
However, when a complete pair fails to show up, this also opens the (slight) possibility that they could have moved nests or are prospecting elsewhere.
We know that pairs do sometimes stay together even when not breeding, but we have to stress.... we simply don't know what has happened.
Llyn Brenig is managed by Dŵr Cymru. If she ever is spotted on the Dyfi nest, we will, of course, let you know.

Do ospreys regurgitate pellets like
some other raptors do?
With the help of our new cameras and a practical demonstration from Telyn, here's the answer...😮

08:09 WELSH INTRUDER!
Blue KS7 - a 2018 male from the Clywedog nest around 12 miles south of us here (note: the ring is upside-down).
Interestingly, his sister, KS8, returned last year meaning two of the three birds from the 2018 have returned to Wales.
Many congratulations guys 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

You've got to be kidding..???
A Clywedog intruder lands this morning on the Dyfi nest, so who turns up this afternoon?
