Our beautiful osprey family have departed.
We last saw Padarn on Monday evening and Idris a whole 24 hours later. He looked for her all day on Tuesday and, safe in his mind the last of his 2022 offspring had gone, he also started his long journey south.
πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯ We will close the 2022 Live Streaming this evening at 8pm πŸŽ₯πŸŽ₯
Remember, the Dyfi Wildlife Centre is still open Wednesday to Sundays every week until Christmas, and we'll still be on social media every week, but, as far as DOP-live goes, that's it folks.
Thank you to all of you that have visited - either in person or online - your support is truly and humbly appreciated. It would be a lonely old place without you 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Who remembers the 300m of 'The Loop' timber boardwalk we used to have at Cors Dyfi?
We had to take it up in 2013 as it was rotting away and was unsafe.
Well, this autimn, it's going back in. Only this time made with a composite material made 100% from recycled materials that matches the other 600m of boardwalk we have.

We're just updating some of the stats on the DOP website.
Here's the updated 2022 bar-chart showing the two 'extremes' this year, both the youngest and oldest of all Dyfi offspring to migrate.

As many of you know, we try and incorporate, as much as we can, flushes of Welsh history and culture into the Dyfi Wildlife Centre's building.
The north-facing roof is made of Welsh slate from Penrhyn Quarry near Bethesda, Bangor. Some of you have your names printed on individual slates.
We had a few left over so cleaned these up and put them on an internal wall, actually in the centre.
We'd like to thank Rich Petrie for doing this wonderful pyrography for us (for free). Diolch Rich.
These seven words had enormous significance at the start of the last century in North Wales. This chapter of Welsh history was so divisive, so devastating for families and communities, it tore the very fabric of communities apart. it is still remembered today.
Anyone know what is going on here?
We'd love to hear any of your associated stories below.
Proper explanation later in the week 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

We were baffled this week. Someone has been stealing the beaver food we leave out.
If you have any ideas, please let us know.

Aeron/Z2 and Blue 014

October 5

https://www.facebook.com/BywydGwylltGla ... 388289276/
Here is a video of when we last saw the remaining three ospreys on the Friends of the Ospreys Pont Croesor nest on Friday 9 September.
Z2 / "Aeron" delivered a flounder to the nest at 09:12 and the eldest chick claimed the fish. Around two hours later the youngest chick took over the tail end of the fish and flew off with it at 11:14. The eldest chick remained on the perch until 11:31 before also leaving. There were no further sightings of the Pont Croesor family, although it is likely that Z2 remained in the area for a day or so to ensure his daughters didn't need any more fish supplies.

Cors Dyfi Beaver Family
The beaver family at Cors Dyfi Nature Reserve with Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust are now a family of four!

In Spring 2021 the beaver family (Barti the father, Bedw the mother and Byrti the son) first arrived in their new home: a large enclosure within the Cors Dyfi nature reserve, where they have an important role to play in helping to manage the habitat on the reserve.

They have settled well into their new home and this year they have successfully bred with the arrival of the first beaver kit to be born in the enclosure.

Baby Beaver!

by North Wales Wildlife Trust

First beaver kit spotted the @Dyfi Wildlife Centre enclosure with @Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust. The kit was first spotted in June but it is rather shy at the moment.

Ever wondered what kind of view Idris gets as he's returning to the nest with a large mullet?
That's Meirionnydd to the left, the hills of Snowdonia Natioinal Park in the distance and Montgomeryshire to the right of the Dyfi River.
The nest is just 200m beyond the Glandyfi Bridge and to the right.

Did you know....
Telyn and Idris have laid a trio of eggs in each one of the three years they've bred on Cors Dyfi, but only this year did all three offspring make it to migration age.
Their first egg in 2020 didn't hatch and one chick died at just 8-hours old in 2021.
Wonder where our record-breakers Pedran, Padarn and Paith are right now.... safe in the mangroves of west Africa hopefully 🌴🌴🌞🌞🌞

We can finally take the place-holders off the Family Tree Wall in the Osprey Room - our 'new' oak blocks have arrived (diolch Aled).
Thing is now though, Pedran is the wrong colour. We think.
We'll make a blue one next year for him then when we see him in 2024, we'll know which block to put up!
If you missed all the sex-change stuff - here is is...

It was -1C at dawn today, the lowest temperature we've recorded so far this winter.
In Welsh we call this low or ground-level fog/mist, 'Tarth'.
One of those words that doesn't easily translate into one word in English. Brrrrrrrrrr....β›„οΈπŸŒ«β›„οΈ

Hesgyn, in all probability, died of natural causes.
There was no sign of poisoning, avian flu, and he wasn't shot.
We'll compile a blog with additional details for you and publish this on the weekend.

We've managed to finally track down one whole family that wasn't watching the football last night.
Barti and Bedw (Dad a Mam), their 2020 son, Byrti (bottom left) and their newest kit from this summer (top).
S/he doesn't have a name yet. Any suggestions...? 🦫🦫🦫
