“A pair of white-tailed sea eagles have successfully raised a a chick in the east of the country after their first chick died last year.”
The latter was fitted with a satellite tag but could not be found in the area in Aberdeenshire where it disappeared.

Due to the increasing WtE population, new breeding pairs tend to settle also in landlocked areas like North Karelia in eastern Finland.
“‘Two nesting pairs have been found in North Karelia, and at least one chick was born,’ says Petteri Tolvanen, the head of WWF’s Finnish Biodiversity programme.”

161.White-tailed Eagle breeding success in Finland, August 2014

More good news from the North. According to WWF Finland, 445 inhabited nests were reported in the country.
In 279 of them 449 chicks have hatched, the biggest number since the start of the protection work in the 1970s.

162.“Overnight success” after 20 years in Haseldorf, Schleswig-Holstein. Germany, August 2014

A pair of white-tailed sea eagles have raised two chicks in the Nature protection area Haseldorfer Binnenelbe. Several eagles were observed in this region since 1996 but this ist the first successful breeding season.

A perceived risk to the sea eagle is, according to the article, one of the main reasons for turning down a proposed nine-turbine wind farm in the Kerry-Cork border area near Kilgarvan.

The young White-tailed Eagle, which could be observed on a regular basis in the lower rhine region since some month is still in the area. According to the article, the bird was born and ringed (ring number AY 48) in the Biesbosch in 2013.

The ten-year-old bird was found exhausted and near death about three weeks ago near Tribsees, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Falconer Ulrich Reppenhagen nursed the eagle back to health.

168.First White-tailed Eagles for more than 100 years in the Binnenschlei region. Germany, August 2014

Three eagles have been spotted repeatedly on the Isle of Gulls (Möweninsel). The small island belongs to the town of Schleswig in northern Germany. Biologist Thomas Grünkorn from the Sea Eagle Working Group Schleswig-Holstein confirmed the observations. Two of the birds could become the first pair to breed in this area in 100 years. According to Grünkorn, the river of Schlei is home to three other eagle pairs.

The new center is the first raptor care and rehabilitation station in the country. According to ornithologist Uģis Bergmanis, the place will become no “retirement home” but is dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned wild birds.

According to Lennart Pedersen, leader of the Danish Ornithological Societies´s eagle prject (Projekt Ørn within the Dansk Ornitologisk Forening), about 56 successful nests and 80 fledged young could be documented in 2014.
