A white stork couple is back in the nest at Markt Schwaben, Bavaria, Germany. Due to reconstruction of the builing, the live camera is yet provisional. Please click on "live" in this link

Posting under "white storks" was not possible.

It is now, we have opened a new topic here (Felis)

Thank you Felis.

In Mulhouse Alsace yesterday Mr Gérard Wey of ARECIAL (soc. for the reintroduction of White Storks) was 'helped' by a class of schoolchildren in building a nest to attract a nesting pair to the center of the town. A short video;

Unfortunately the white stork webcam at Markt Schwaben has technical problems momentarily. I hope that the staff will be able to repair the camera soon.

Hi Nancy and all White Stork-fans. Here's the link to our webcam in Markdorf / Lake Constance / South Germany. It's the second webcam-season. Last year all the chicks died of cold and rainy weather like 90% of all young storks in South Germany. This year, our female arrived already on February, 26. She is five years old and ringed in Switzerland. She was on our castle-nest already last year. Her male (without ring) arrived 5 days later. The eggs were layed on 19th, 23nd, 25th and 27th March. Three chicks hatched in the last three days. They are beautyful and everything seems to be fine. You can follow the webcam here: http://46.237.211.38:1010/cgi-bin/guestimage.html
A Facebook-Site also exists, with many pictures and information (only in German).
https://www.facebook.com/storchennestmarkdorf
Don`t hesitate to ask me if you have questions.

Greetings from the South :-)

NancyM wrote:This is fascinating information, Klurt. When I started watching white storks years ago, I was surprised that some did not migrate. I would like to learn more about this program you mention. Would you consider reposting your information (and maybe some links?) here: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=643
Hi Nancy. I did some digging around... Most information comes from various sources in The Netherlands.
First of all I should correct 1 statement: the part of the Dutch white stork population that does not migrate is not growing. The absolute number is staying constant or is diminishing slightly. Dutch organizations see this as a 'good' thing as it is considered that the 'natural state' of white storks is that they migrate. As the number of breeding pairs is increasing in the past years the actual percentage of white storks that are staying in winter is decreasing.
Here are the numbers from winter counts from the last few years:
2010 497 ooievaars
2011 592 ooievaars
2012 653 ooievaars
2013 579 ooievaars
2014 523 ooievaars
(source SOVON http://www.sovon.nl Dutch organisation for counting birds)

For the breeding program: this is now largely (or completely? not clear to me) discontinued. Here's some information in English for you:
1) About the Dutch organisation STORK: http://www.ooievaars.eu/bladzijden%20st ... 0stork.htm
2) About the breeding / reintroduction program http://www.ooievaars.eu/bladzijden%20st ... nglish.htm

Why the Dutch birds stay in winter? Much is still unclear on that, an important factor has been of course the winter feeding at the breeding stations, but that is now discontinued for a few years as far as I know. Again, almost all young storks start with migrating (close to 100%). At this moment about 35-40% of the breeding pairs in the Netherlands are staying in winter.

Some more interesting webpages in Dutch:
Main website STORK: http://www.ooievaars.eu/frame.htm
Background wintercount 2014: http://www.ooievaars.eu/bladzijden%20wi ... nd2014.htm
General information Storks in winter in Netherlands: http://www.ooievaars.eu/bladzijden%20in ... ingalg.htm
An example of a current white stork 'station': http://www.ooievaars.nl/

I hope this is some useful information for you.

This is a great nest in Hungary. Lives streaming with sound and excellent picture quality. Male is young and took about 4-5 days before he figured out how to mate successfully with the older - but not helpful - female! The eggs are about 2 weeks old. Church chimes go every 15 minutes and are very loud - microphone too close to them and not the nest, but a great nest to watch. Sometimes you can see the storks walking over the fields below.

Hello, good morning everyone!
I just wanted to introduce this site of Storchenelke.de, too  You have done well, Ausra!
It is a small forum with only a handful of women who are chatting and posting pics all the time, Elke collected about 300 nests with cams across whole of europe! The most - of course - in Germany. (Unfortunately, the forum vanished a couple of weeks ago, where we used to post our pics permanently. All our collected pics from years are gone and Elke can't find out, why! It is a real disaster).
But back to the small pics. You only have to click on them and the webcam you want, will open.
The best nest of Germany I like is Gögglingen, it's already the second one of Elkes collection. It has got a nice view and has got livestreaming. The quality is very good.
The second one, I like very much, is Höchstadt an der Aisch, you will find it in the fourth line. Unfortunately it doesn't have livestream, but it runs the whole year because there are storks, even during the winter!
Then I like Dettenheim, it has got livestream and sound, but the quality is not so good.
I like very much Markdorf which Irasa already mentionend several times.
One nest, we love all together is Rheinmünster-Stollhofen.
Or Garlitz, a pictorial cam near Berlin.
There are so many........
I love to watch as well the polish cams like Raszkow and Gniew, for example.
But the best cams I ever met are in Estonia! :loveshower: They've got the best equipments with the best quality, the nicest birds, the best informations and - the nicest members! :D

Addition: I also want to tell you of another Forum. It is organized completely different, but you might like it better.
The owner is a canadian woman and it is called Feathery Friends.
http://featheryfriends.com/phpBB2/index ... 17e2a54ea2
It is english spoken, although the majority of members are Germans.
When you click on Stork cams, 2014 you will find a list of all the cams who exist, also all over Europe. (The same like with Elke)
But the order is changing permanently, because the last post you will find always at the top of the list.
The members are very busy with posting pics.
Worth mentioning is the "Stork Cam Queen" Barbara, a danish woman. She is able to capture pics within seconds and post them in no time at all! I don't know, how she can manage this, for me it is a miracle....
greetings from Baska
