“The children are all out of school, and the schoolmaster was the last of all,” said the children. It was good fun, and they sang over the dead ashes,—

“Snip, snap, snurre,
Basse lure:
The song is ended.”

But the little invisible beings said, “The song is never ended; the most beautiful is yet to come.”

But the children could neither hear nor understand this, nor should they; for children must not know everything.

The End"

Good day! First photo taken on April 7. Here is the beginning of an interesting life in the new nest. I remember that we were worried about the fact that pine branch lies uncomfortable. The second picture is today, August 16. Here the nest as the airfield...from this site went to young life Snips, Snaps and Snurre. Happy journey!

Thanks, Gavril. All the branches and material Perkons and Lauma brought to the nest during the season are gone now. The man-made construction could be seen again. Bottom of the nest is a brownish mixture of dirt, fish rests, feathers, ... instead of fresh greenery of the pine.
This is a pontu snapshot of June 6 to realize what fledglings did to a well constructed nest:

I think it's a woodpecker of some sort, could be the European green woodpecker, or perhaps the grey-headed woodpecker. But I'm far from sure.

According to German Wikipedia I would say it's an young female grey-headed woodpecker (Grauspecht) because the European green woodpecker has a red spot, female and male, also youngsters.

This unringed male osprey has been on the nest since 15:42 (all pictures from the Pontu archive):

He seems to feel comfortable on the nest, looking around a bit, checking the sky, preening, standing on one leg.

I am not sure but it could be a Bohemian Waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus). :dunno: Although Latvia is a bit too far south?
