The last confirmed sighting of M17 was on 17th Sep, 2022. With such a time of absence at his traditional nest site it is almost certain his is dead. If he were alive and recovered from any injuries and reappeared he would wind up dead or severely injured again. This in large part is based on many observations by volunteers and many sites over many years with the Victorian Peregrine Project we coined a term we called "The Agro Index". Aggressive defence of the nest increases measurably over the breeding season. Two things are occurring.
1. Stress hormones increase during the breeding season.
2. Related to point 1. the level of the "investment" in this breeding season accumulates and so is more worth defending the longer it goes on.
Adults tend to be less aggressive say prior to egg laying than they are once incubation has started and even more so as the nestlings increase in age.
An adult female Peregrine Falcon was found in the "Melbourne metro area" on 21st June with serious injuries and was euthanized. I am presuming this is F17.
Approximately 90% of injured raptors that do make it into a clinic for care end up being euthanized. These are predators like nature "Red in tooth and claw".
Several "reports" of Peregrine Falcons being brought into care in the "Melbourne" area have all been found to be misidentifications (1 Brown Falcon and 2 x Australian Hobbies).
