It is not a tragedy, because those 4 chicks are alive but their mom had to take them away from the nest.

Season 2023
April 22
Lielais dumpis (Botaurus stellaris) Engurē - LDF tiešraide
the camera is back
Info by LDF :
The nest is located approximately in the same reed region of Lake Engure, from where the live broadcast was also provided last year (in the middle of the lake). These reeds have long been known as the habitat of various water birds, including the great tern.
This year (in 2023), the nest observed live was found on April 19. There was one egg in the nest when found. The camera at the nest was installed on April 21. Between finding the nest and installing the camera, another egg was laid in the nest. On the morning of April 22, there were already three eggs in the nest. Therefore, it is known that the eggs are currently fresh or recently laid.
