The third chick finally arrived today, just in time for a trout lunch. The official time of hatching was 12.51.
The 2022 Glaslyn Osprey family is now complete.

The first chick for Z2/"Aeron" and Blue 014 hatched on the Pont Croesor nest overnight.
We do not know how many eggs were laid in the nest, so we will now have to wait until the chicks heads appear above the rim of the nest in a couple of weeks time.
Congratulations to everyone involved with this breeding pair.

Here is the moment that we realised a chick had hatched on the Pont Croesor nest, when Blue 014 began to feed it with a fish delivered by Z2/Aeron"=.
Later on in the morning Z2 was eager to join in with the feeding.

The Glaslyn chicks are now 16, 15 and 12 days old and they have all reached the ‘Reptilian Stage’, where their second down gives them the appearance of dinosaurs as their pin feathers begin to appear on their heads and necks.
They have a rapid growth rate during the first four weeks of age and the size difference between the eldest and youngest chick is particularly noticeable at this stage in their development. As they are growing up we are now seeing the two older chicks exploring the nest and the youngest chick should join its older siblings in the next day or so.

On Thursday we were able to identify an intruding Osprey at the Glaslyn nest when Blue 550 touched down briefly and revealed his leg ring.
Blue 550 was hatched at Llyn Clywedog in 2020 and was one of three males from 5F / “Seren’s” first brood. 5F was a regular in the Glaslyn Valley until she settled at Clywedog in 2020 and it was great to see one of her first chicks also exploring the valley.

The three chicks are all now over 20 days old and their first feathers are starting to appear on their bodies. Between 15 and 30 days old they are in a rapid period of growth and by 30 days they will have achieved 70 to 80 percent of their adult body weight and size.
