In the past couple of days Aran has had two unringed female callers dropping by to see whether "Aran's Fish Bar" was open for business.
The first female had a distinctive brown tummy patch and may have been the same Osprey that landed on the Glaslyn nest shortly before Aran arrived back on Monday afternoon. Aran refused to share, ignoring her calls and attempts to steal the fish and following her divebombing him and a subsequent chase on Thursday evening she appears to have moved on.
The second female arrived on Friday afternoon via the camera post, causing Aran to mantle over his Mullet while she looked down on him. Her patience was rewarded and he eventually shared the tail end of his fish with her. His courtship advances were rejected however, and after swallowing down the tail she also flew off into the distance, leaving Aran to sit and wait for the next caller.
Watch this space!

Yesterday Blue KA5/Roli (Llyn Brenig 2019), briefly landed on the Glaslyn nest perch for the third consecutive year. His parents Blue 24 and Blue HR7 were both regular visitors to the Glaslyn nest before they began breeding together at Llyn Brenig between 2018 and 2020.
Great to see that Roli has safely returned home to Wales.

Late yesterday evening a female osprey with a blue ring on the right leg briefly landed on the Glaslyn nest. Unfortunately, it was moments before the infra-red lamp came on and the main cameras had already changed to night mode. Our visitor will therefore remain a mysterious girl.

We have reached the middle of April and sadly we do not think that Mrs G will return now. We celebrate her memory in our latest blog.
Fly high sweet beautiful lady.

Here is a video of Aran and the new unringed female who first arrived on 7th April. Aran shared his fish with her and there have been mating attempts, but she left the nest on the 13th following a chase from Z1/Tegid. Will she be back? Keep watching the livestream!

We have learned that the Osprey pair on the Friends of the Ospreys BM nest have moved to another nest nearby. It is unusual for ospreys to move nests, but it is not unheard of.
It seems that the unringed female that was present on the Glaslyn nest earlier this week was actually Z1/Tegid’s mate and she has now returned to their new nest.

Late afternoon Aran delivered another fish to his new mate. Then they mated again.

Since April 14 a new unringed female has been spending time on the Glaslyn nest. Aran has provided her with fish and they have been mating and collecting nesting material. The female has also been roosting on the nest perch. It is early days, but cross fingers things seem to be heading in the right direction.

The first egg has been laid in the Friends of the Ospreys Pont Croesor nest. Egg laying behaviour was observed late yesterday evening and today Blue 014 and Z2/Aeron have been taking it in turns to incubate on the nest.
Congratulations to everyone concerned with the nest.

At 20:40 on Monday evening, a ringed male intruder Osprey landed on the Glaslyn nest perch, he also made a brief visit at 06:00 on Tuesday, but was chased away by Aran. Thank you to the ringer, Keith Brockie for confirming the details of Blue PU1 and for providing us with a photograph of PU1 on the nest with his brood. PU1 is the smallest of the three chicks on the right hand side of Keith’s photograph and was ringed on 15th July 2019 at Loch Tay, Perthshire. His sibling on the left hand side, Blue PT9, was photographed by Joanna Dailey in Kielder Forest in August 2021.
What is really interesting is that Keith can watch this nest from his living room window and last night was watching the adult pair chase an immature White-tailed Eagle from the eyrie vicinity!

The new un-ringed female has been with Aran for exactly a week. They are continuing to establish a bond and work together as a pair. Things are looking very hopeful – we have everything crossed.

Our new Glaslyn female now has a name! She will be called Elen, named after Yr Elen a mountain in the Carneddau range in Eryri (Snowdonia). As you will be aware, Aran is named after Yr Aran another mountain in Eryri.
We look forward to following Aran and Elen’s story in the months ahead.

We have received the fantastic news from Joanna Dailey, that KC4 (2020) has been spotted intruding at Kielder nest 2. Joanna has seen KC4 in Senegal the previous two winters, but this is the first resighting of her back in the UK.
Following the loss of the two Glaslyn hatched Kielder birds this year, Yellow 37 (2005) and White YA (2007), this resighting is particularly special. We hope that KC4 finds a suitable nest and mate and it would be wonderful if she settled in Kielder Forest.

We are delighted to report that the intruder who landed on the Glaslyn nest at 18:25 on Saturday 22 April was one of Mrs G's grandchicks. Blue 414 (2020) is one of the offspring of Blue 9C (2014) who breeds at a private nest in Northern England.
