Estonian Tawny Owl Webcam 2017

Webcam at Estonian Tawny Owls (Strix aluco) Klaara & Klaus

Owlets May 2016
Image

Introduction on LK main page: http://www.looduskalender.ee/n/en/node/1109

Location of the nestbox is not far from human settlements, so it is normal to hear sounds from passing cars, tractors, lawn mower and even human voices.

We can expect between 2 and 6 eggs, incubation time is 28 to 30 days.

Observations of most previous years showed us, that up to 6 eggs were laid, but that only 2 or 3 owlets will grow up and become branchlings.
Also this year we can´t expect that all hatched owlets will grow up. The owlets which are too small and weak to fight for their share of food and won´t survive this hard competition, will be fed to surviving owlets by the female Tawny Owl.
It is a food source that can´t be wasted, Tawny Owls behaviour can not be measured with our human ethic understanding.
Camera won´t be switched off, things will be shown as they happen in this real wildlife.

Please be aware of this, especially when you watch this cam with your children!

Owls and their silent flight

A very intersting video clip from BBC about owls silent flight, compared to other birds. The owl there is a Barn Owl, but it is probably not much difference to Tawny Owls

Yeah - here we go :loveshower:

Image

Cam view is a bit different than in previous years - no split view with outside entrance and all seems to be closer to the bottom of the box ... a new camera equipment? :puzzled:

At 16:54 the cam changed to night modus

That's a little bit pity.

IceAge :hi:

I was lying in wait already for quite a while ....

After the cam went online so early last year, waiting in patience was pretty hard this year

Good morning :hi:
Fleur wrote:I get a message from someone, the pontu link doesn't works
I just checked it, this is the pontu link given in introduction post, and it works
http://pontu.eenet.ee/player/kakk.html

The cam also appears correct in the overview
http://pontu.eenet.ee/

Maybe it was a temporary problem?

What is not yet working is a link to the pontu archives, because there are still no recordings visible. Maybe a bit later, we have to wait a bit.

Also not yet working is a link to debianuser´s viewer tool (pontu.ca), this probably also still takes some time.

That´s why both links are not yet mentioned in this years´ introduction post and why I wrote that it is still under construction

And why does the "someone" not write a note to one of the board team? ;)
