LOL! I just had an inspiration and opened the cam. On my tablet the stream often starts with the beginning – 4 hours back. And what do I see? Kaupo! :loveshower:
Wonderful to see him again. :D
Thank you for all the beautiful pictures, Liz and Birdfriend! :2thumbsup:

I’ve read once, that the adult Black Storks don’t migrate immediately when they left their nests. It was written that they go to a good place with enough food, a little river for example, and stayed there with other adults for up to 4 weeks. They rest there and recover from the arduous brood season. Only then they begin their long journey. Unfortunately I haven’t found again the nice picture from the gathering place, I’ve seen once.

Sue, Birdfriend, Rita, Chrisitz … thank you all for your kind words! I hope we will meet again next year.

:hi: Michi, that all is true (also WS)
we have here in LK photos with our Ziluka - Upene :D on CZ - PL border = river Olša (Olze), with adult storks; long time she stayed here before the long migration route to Africa - the map https://s22.postimg.cc/4amivzrn5/ZILUKA.jpg (but it was not in nesting area  )

August 14

Good Morning Solo, Michi, Sue, Birdfriend, asteria, and all :hi:

That was a nice surprise for me yesterday. Clear signs of leaving the nest does not mean anything.
There are many different things about this nest. 8-)

I know that they stay in the area for a few days or weeks. The longest stay in latvia, was by Meija (2015) .I thought she will never migrate.
I think if the nest did not collapse everyone would still be here. Except maybe Gaja :shake:

EDIT 15.08. the right link https://bit.ly/2w75aQQ (above the link is only to photo)

"And another nesting season has passed. It looks like all Latvijas Dabas fonds live-camera nest black storks have started migration to Africa. It has been a great year in nest in Sigulda district - 4 chicks have been raised. The nest is a bit devastated, but hopefully we will be able to watch its renovation work next spring! To see season events is possible in the Dabasdati forum (https://forums.dabasdati.lv/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3864). Thank you very much to every forum member who recorded events in the nest! We hope that birds will have a good migration, rich and safe resting places in Africa, and we will be waiting for birds to return in the spring!"

nothing about that topic
