Following Karls' Families

Post by juta »

First time in Looduskalender history we have opportunity to observe black storks` migration tracks who are origin from the same family. Their nest is in Karula National Park, Estonia and we have watched their life through the webcam

https://www.looduskalender.ee/forum/vie ... ?f=2&t=924

Family:

Karl – adult male, ring number 715R
Kati – adult femal, not ringed

Their offsprings hatched on 18 – 20 th May 2018

Päike - ring number 7161
Karula – ring number 7162
Maru – ring number 7163

Big thank you to our observers who donated money for transmitters which all three storklets got during ringing on 14th July and made possible to follow hopefully successful migration.

Sadly, we have lost some of our young Black Storks. This attrition is to be expected, but still it is a shock when we are faced with the hard news that well-known black stork friends have perished.

For the record, here are the details of the last known locations of PÄIKE, MARU and KARL.

KARL
No new data (Last data: 29.03.2019)
Last known location: near Akkari, Homs Governorate, Syria

MARU
Maru perished on 25.02.2019 at about 13:00, near the Al Ballanah wastewater ponds in Egypt.
Last flight data: 25.02.2019

PÄIKE
No new data (Last data: 07.10.2018)
Last known location: near Schiza Island, Peloponnese, Greece

So it has begun... May you stay strong and calm, dear storkaholics.

I hope the lines on the tracking map will be long and enduring.

The animation provides different data, just as solo does that, without animation, it is correct.

Solo, thank you. Hope you've had a good rest in summer and are ready for the wide "working field" this autumn! :D
On the one hand I don't like transmitters on their backs, but on the other hand - it's good to know where our feathered friends are at the moment and how they are doing. May favorable winds carry you and a lot of fish be on your "dinner-table"!
a strange thought has come to my mind - maybe also Kati was provided with a transmitter so that we can follow the whole family....

I am not sure in this moment - they are also storks from previous years (and I do for them years "travel diary" not only with map, but also with photos, if they are in area; without LK - CZ, SK and HU storks, WS and also BS)
:hi: Summi,
- thank you :shake: , it was good time :D
- we have still summer and it is also "summer work" (garden - fruits, ...)

if we have data and if is all O.K. with our storks, it is good, but ... I like transmitters only for "unknown" storks (but after time, they are also my good friends)
