Good evening!
Here are a few pictures of Karl II’s current area.
This morning, Karl II had an extensive brunch in the Motoșeni Dams in the Zeletin Valley in Romania. He only started travelling after 13:00. He reached northern Moldova in the late afternoon.
There he flew over the village of Drochia to the village of Mîndîc.
In Mîndîc he went fishing in the local fish pool, for less than an hour.
After a hopefully satisfying supper, he flew a little further north, to another big pond, where he is spending the night on a tree near the water.
Mîndîc, also spelled Mândâc, is a village in Drochia District, in the north of Moldova. At the 2004 census, the commune had 3,402 inhabitants.
To the north of the village, on the left bank of the Cubolta river, is located the spring of the village of Mîndîc, a protected area from the category of hydrological nature reserve. At 6 km from the village, there is another protected area, in the category of landscape architectural reserve: the park of the village of Mîndîc, where the mansion of the Ohanowicz family is located.

Would it be that birds would avoid loud noise and bangs, smoke and other noise ...
and would bypass such areas? I hope so, and I wish good luck on their journey!

Last year routes of Timmu, Karl II and Eedi through Ukrainian territories were different. Timmu flew very close to Poland, Karl II moved between Vinnitsa and Khmelnitsky(Western part of the Ukraine) and Eedi on the Eastern part of the country, now it is the most dangerous area. Timmu will fly in relatively safe way. But there one more danger now: some stupid people in spring often burn grass and cause fires!! It is forbidden in the Ukraine, but they still do it! Hope all the storks reach Belarus as soon as possible.

Here is a picture showing how Timmu, Karl II and Eedi crossed Ukraine last spring, 2021.
Of course, they don't fly the exact same route every year, but they will probably fly a similar track.
Fingers crossed.

Thank you, Jo!
Oh dear, our Karl II crossed the Ukrainian border, flew north, changed his mind near the little village of Bilychyn in the Bar District of the Vinnytsia Oblast, and flew all the way back to his morning location in Moldova!
He is currently again north of Mîndîc and south of Maramonovca, two villages in the Drochia District, in northern Moldova.
Edit:

Does it mean that he found something wrong there and decided to return?

I really don’t know, Asteria
Were shots or explosions heard? Was there fire to be seen? Or a lot of smoke?
Or perhaps the weather was awful? I will check that…

But why did he return to the south when he could have travelled an equal distance to the north, where his instinct wants him to go?

I don’t know, Jo.
Maybe Karl II got frightened by something…
Oh dear, I don’t like this.
Edit:
We have witnessed in the past that during migration, a BS occasionally returns to its previous location.
It may just be an unfortunate coincidence that it has happened here and now.

As far as I know there were no shoots in this area today, but maybe the grass was burnt. The wind was from the North-West direction, 2-1 m/s

It´s a quite safe area so far. There have been explosions in Lviv but don't believe were heard in Karl´s area.
It´s back winter-like weather in Estonia, maybe somebody texed that to him.

Maybe he was really scared of something and his first quick reaction was to fly back. He will probably come up with a way to get around Ukraine, I think so.

If it is as you suppose, Treia , then Karl II is even smarter than I already thought.
We will have to wait patiently until tomorrow evening to see what he decides next ...

Welcome to the forum, winnipeg hawk
Yes, we all hope to welcome Karl II safe and sound on his nest. Hopefully all is well with his beloved Kaia too. May they have a happy and successful breeding season!

Thanks, Jo
Tension is rising...
Most likely Karl II is no longer at his last known location.
The weather was favourable to venture northward again...
Today's weather in the Vinnytsia Oblast in Ukraine:
Hopefully we will get news tomorrow evening.
