Re: Following Karls' Families
Happy to hear that Karl is getting closer to home. Hopefully the others all make it it through Ukraine and make it home too. I have been watching the storks for 5 years now. I started watching when I had a cold in 2017 and did not feel like doing much of anything.
will this be the forum for 2022? Or when they get home will another be posted.
Thank you
Debi (Michigan, USA)

Urmas will go to the nest tomorrow, whatever the weather. There will be a different camera with zoom and night vision! I do hope they can make this camera work! It has needed some work by Omar so let's hope he is successful.
Karl II's earliest arrival could be tomorrow evening.
Edit -
I may have been too optimistic in posting about a camera with night vision and zoom. Not sure which camera we shall watch. Tomorrow will tell. Sorry to have raised hopes, if I was wrong.

Icechips
There will be a new topic on the Black Stork Forum for this year.
I am trying to open it now but the connection has been so slow/stop for some days. Maybe it is the Ukrainian situation.

Thank you very much, Anne, Juta, Jo!
So nice to "see" you again, Michi and icechips!
The weather is improving a bit.
It will rain instead of snow.

Let's see, let's hope for the best as always!

As Karl II was near Minsk yesterday, he may reach the Southern part of Latvia today.

Good evening, everyone!
Thank you, Jo
I've been having internet problems all afternoon. There are major sewer and drainage works going on down the street, and presumably the workmen damaged an internet cable. I am now using my cellphone as a 4G personal hotspot for my computer. That could get expensive!
Yes, Karl II may be home tomorrow afternoon or evening! I hope the camera works by then! Would Kaia also be in the area by now? Hopefully she made it too! I can't wait to see them.
Karl II is currently sleeping in a forest near Vecbeči in the Galēni parish in Latvia.
"As the crow flies", he is only about 140 km away from his nest.
Depending on the weather and the wind direction/speed, he may be there in about 4 to 5 hours?
Unless it will be raining all day long tomorrow ... then he probably won't fly.
See you tomorrow, dear Karl II ?
Thank you, Jo

As always I'm too late with my pictures. But I'll post them anyway.
Karl II is even faster than I had expected. Already at about 14:30 UTC+2 (roughly estimated) he reached the border to Latvia.
This seems to be a nice place to spend the night.
Jo, I too hope Urmas will manage it before Karl II arrives. But it is very, very close.

This will be the last tracker map for Karl II this season..
There is a so-far-empty topic for the 2022 webcam forum. We just need a camera to get started!

Sorry, but it is locked until we can start that topic properly.

Good evening, everyone
Hello Michi, Heloise, icechips, Asteria and winnipeg hawk !
Our Karl II is home!
I believe it's safe to add this little extra information:
Karl II crossed the Estonian border around 13:00 (UTC+3) and reached his nest around 15:00 (UTC+3)*
It looks like - before flying to the nest - he first wanted to eat something at a brook near the nest. Or maybe he had to take shelter from the rain, that is also possible. :-)
Or could it be that Karl II had to wait for a short while because Urmas was working on the nest?
* Edit:
To be more precise: we see that at 14:00 Karl II is already at a distance of about 1.5 km from the nest, in the forest. And at 15:00 he is visible on the nest.
Everything that happened between those two times is a mystery. :-)
After 16:00 he went fishing in a creek slightly north of the nest and at 19:00 he was already back home. At 20:00 he was still there. It looks like Karl II is spending the night on the nest.

Anne, I am so happy too!
Our Karl II the Greatest is home again, wonderful!
I hope that Urmas and Karl don't get into a fight because of the nest and the camera!

Maybe Karl II thought that the big bird on the nest could use a snack...

Yes, Karl II the Greatest!
He deserves that name!
That is also possible!
I am sure that these two like each other, and, moreover, our Karl II is slowly getting into nurturing-mode.
Yes, let’s hope that we will see our sweet little Kaia too! I love that bird so much.

Good evening, everyone,
thanks a lot, Jo, for the exciting news, and Anne, for the extra information!
So, Karl II is really at his nest? This would be wonderful! :-)))
But for the first time we couldn't see his arrival.
Jo, do you have information from Urmas, if he could install the cam?
As this was the last trackermap of the season, I want to say a big thank you, Jo and Juta, for all the maps you've created.

Hi Michi.
Yes, Urmas was able to install the camera and its fittings. He and Omar were in a rush, knowing that Karl II could arrive soon.He was able to leave just before Karl II arrived. I have asked him if it is possible to know how much time there was between his departure and Karl II's arrival. I suspect it was a close-run thing! If I get an answer I will let you know.
A little more work is needed to make the cameras public (Black Stork 2 was on Urmas' to-do list today.)
Ospreys camera is online but not yet published Only Greater Spotted Eagle camera is not installed.
