liz01, with all due respect, you do not have to read this forum if it gets you upset about the goshawks.

I don't get upset about the Goshawks. It upsets me that people believe it is right to drive them away or hunt them down. You have your opinion, I have my opinion on the subject. I like Goshawks much. They are beautiful birds

EDIT:
it reminds me of a video i made. A peregrine falcon in Australia has caught a parrot. 90% of video viewers want to kill the peregrine falcon because they believe a parrot has more right to live. The parrot and the peregrine falcon are genetically very closely related. They just specialized differently in order to survive

Nobody should follow the camera if they can't stand the harshness of nature.
It also works like that.
When the only conclusion is the animal pursue that food attacks... .

We don't know how many nests will actually be looted! There can be many (successful!) Broods. And so it will be.

Spreading hatred on hawks is very superficial and dangerous.
This nest is a small part of the mosaic as a whole. Not all nests are plundered by hawks. Imagine ... humans hunt ospreys too. Year after year ... cruel.
I bet more ospreys die during migration (shot) and in their breeding areas (poisoned, shot, trapped) than by hawks. In addition, humans rob these animals of more and more breeding opportunities. Retreat options ... evasive.
What's your idea here?

Well, hunting a single species is actually easier, but not a solution in the long run!

It is up to Teo and Vita to leave this area. But it doesn't look like it.

Teo started cleaning up his nest this morning. Teo and Vita start over ... .

Vita, but probably both need a little more reserve for their migration.

Please read the room, Liz.
The people here are hurting from the losses of the 2 chicks, not only from this season.
If people who support and follow the Osprey, go to the goshawk forum and defend something that you guys are mourning and feeling sick about, well I would expect that you too would feel that those people should have better manners.
Have some respect, please.

Actually a tedious discussion, but I would like to state one thing definitely and very clearly - Cessie, Liz and I are certainly not lacking in feelings! We feel just as disappointed as 'the people here'. We just deal with it differently.

'The people here' are very few, by the way. It came, as I said - only when something happens is suddenly written. Just by the way.

As for the Goshawk's nest ... it's petty to use as a comparison.
Do you want to know why I am documenting it?
I started to learn more about Goshawk. At first it was difficult for me ... they were strangers to me. I only knew her as a nest robber.
I didn't like Goshawk!
But I wanted to know ... wanted to know what their nature is like. How they 'tick' ... how they eat. And whether Goshawk are really just wild robbers. What sense an overkill like 2 years ago in the Finnish nest makes.
I was struck by the chick's losses in the different nests (osprey, black stork ... little eagle) and angry! Yes!

I started googling, reading, and watching.
A completely different picture has developed for me, Cessie.

I still pray for every life - in every nest. And every loss plunges me into emptiness! Believe me.
And we've had plenty this year ... for a variety of reasons. But it always hurts the same.

Nevertheless, I have grown to like and accept both animals equally. To understand that one shouldn't judge nature with the heart. All animals have a place in it that should not be denied them. Even if it means losses.

Losses ... Cessie, they're on both sides.
Lui and Boka both disappeared over winter. Probably both dead ... two Goshawk? A couple at the same time within a few weeks? It's strange and no one came on the goshawk thread to regret it or to question it. Two birds ... living things. Nobody cares about it, Cessie!
If Teo and Vita had not both returned, the regret would have been great.
Why is that? The answer to that is self explanatory.
And why do you complain about a lack of compassion?

Many words. I won't say more about it either.
Everything is said.

Well, everyone is grieving, but nobody is following Teo and Vita. I was late from work and couldn't bobbin enough. Pity ....

05:04 - 08 Teo and Vita in the nest.

Thanks @karliiina!

Versatile is an interesting and flexible word.
I read many of you on other topics. So it cannot be time.

Many gather where there are already many. Unfortunately, this has now become a common phenomenon.
Instead of many observers on one nest, it would be desirable if every nest had a sponsor.
And many just enjoy the feeling of being in a group. And allow me the criticism - that has nothing to do with intensive observation.

There would be so many things that would be interesting ... gosh, I've tried again and again!
The obvious is not always important! Pay attention to sounds! Which birds / animals in the area do you hear? How do you call?
For example ... it tells which birds are dominant ... when to sound the alarm.
Can you hear people?

For example last summer there seemed to be real tourism here.

But regular observation is required here. And nobody is ready for it!
Googling ... what's the real situation in Latvia? Latvia was once called a particularly green country ... an oasis.
But see the big picture!
Is there an imbalance? Through hunting tourism and one-sided use of nature?
Why is it that food is becoming scarce for many animals?

But everyone comes scolding when the nest is empty.
You can't criticize if you don't know the big picture.
Even if it's easy.

Do you want to learn something or have a nice chat?

My question is provocative but not unjustified.
And it affects less you @balistar
You are still most active here.

It would be nice if one or two of the Teo and Vita would continue to accompany them.

Instead of many observers on one nest, it would be desirable if every nest had a sponsor.

Take a look at the Estonian nests ... sova has shown that it is worth hoping. :innocent:

But she also invests a lot and doesn't just come to judge.

Even if your unsaid words reveal a lot here. 8-)
@sova :2thumbsup:

Let's see and share ... don't argue.

 Osprey Fans!

I have an uplifting story to share about a different Osprey nest. I feel that the story will bring good feelings.

There is an Osprey Cam on YouTube, called
Patuxent River Park Camera #2.
This Osprey pair only had one chick. A week or so ago a new chick was plopped into the nest. :D This chick was rescued from a fallen nest, or something like this, and the chick first went to rehabilitate, and then brought to this nest. The chick was excepted with open wings by the family.
Plenty of fish and care for everyone.
Now today I open the camera and see a 3rd Chick!
This new chick had fallen from a nest that was on top of a barn silo, and could not be placed back into the nest. So it was brought to this nest. So far everything is wonderful! These stories of people helping out the chicks, and rehoming the chicks with nests that can support more chicks, just brings happy tears to my eyes.
