Now that we know the hatching year we can speculate whether it is a first-time-returner or not.Bea wrote:... It is a Latvian Osprey, hatched and ringed in 2013, in a nest with 3 osprets, in area of Viesīte, Latvia.
All its behaviour, the very cautious first landing, looking around as if it knew that it is "not at home" on this nest .... perhaps I am reading too much into it, but I think it could be so

Maybe still strolling around to find a new home in one of the Baltic states.

Fleur, unfortunately I can´t hear anything this time in the video, despite I had volume as high as possible. Maybe you used headphones when you recorded it and heard it better so ...Fleur wrote:22:00 Ural Owl call / hoot hoot

April 6
good morning
7:30 a few minutes long a Duck is splashing and calling, and Common Swipe
7:42 a visitor on nest - somewhere, singing.
I doubt between Blackbird or a Song Thrush
But beautiful
good morning

Osprey No. 766 with a visitor

@ Moderator or any other with knowledge: Was 766 one of the clutch ringed in Latvia where one of the three chicks actually flew off the nest during the ringing and so remained unringed?
I found the answer, no, the off flied chick was from the clutch of Ulla and Uldis year 2012 - whose nest was on cam 2013, too:

In 2014 the Latvian cam nest (on LK) was possessed by Pērkons and Lauma - and they built the nest that year from beginning, so their nest has not existed before 2014. At least in that position - maybe it is known that they nested in another tree (unringed though)?
EDIT: the nest has existed before the new one built from beginning in the 2014 position.

There are quick and stunning news about the visitor with ring 766!
It is a Latvian Osprey, hatched and ringed in 2013, in a nest with 3 osprets, in area of Viesīte, Latvia.
And guess what ..... this nest was Latvian camera nest in the following year, in 2014!
EDIT: in 2013 this nest hadn't the camera.
Here might be the answer viewtopic.php?p=305074#p305074 - this couple had been followed before the previous nest and it means "766" can be an offspring of Pērkons and Lauma from 2013! A sibling to Snips, Snaps and Snurre!Hellem wrote:...

Yes, it's true, I have the best memories from this nest alsoOwlie wrote: ...Our beloved parents Pērkons and Lauma - the season 2014 was the most wonderful osprey cam season I have been with!...

Both Lauma and Pērkons were such bird personalities - and all the three chicks as well, with lots of food brought in by both parents, with almost no sibling fights! Not to forget the entertaining comments of Gavril and Kukelke - they made the atmosphere so fun and interesting!Hellem wrote:...

Good evening!
Yeah, season with Lauma and Perkons was perfect! I got great pleasure from observing their touching relationship. I like that osprey 766 is able to be the chick 2013.

I made a short video clip of the ringed Osprey while/after landing, it jumped down from the cam support on the nest at 06:31, maybe it was sitting up there even longer before.
Ring on right ankle - and as far as I know Finnish Ospreys are ringed with only metal ring
Unfortunately it was most of the time sitting on the nest showing us its nice back, so no clear compare of chest feathers are possible.
Despite I took some shots of the short moments right after landing and walking over to the right nest rim, when a bit of its chest feathers are visible.
I suggest it is a male bird.
