Hello, everyone

Thank you for the info, Urmas.
A transmitter that no longer sends data can, of course, have all kinds of causes.
I really hope it is only a technical problem, and that our Karl is already in Bulgaria or Romania in the meantime. :D

Solo, yes, it will be a long wait.
Based on previous years, we could see how long Karl (usually) needs to travel from Syria to Estonia.
Today is April 3 (not 4). As asteria wrote, you skipped a day. :D

Here is Karula's morning map:

He is still flying around in his favourite area. 8-)

Thank you for your efforts, Solo.
Unfortunately, in previous years, there also appear to be several days without an update.
Especially in 2017.

So I tried a different approach.
I used the scroller bar in birdmap.
I know it is not always 100% accurate, but it is accurate enough for this purpose.

In 2017, Karl flew 15 days between Syria and Estonia. (from 20.03 until 04.04)
Image

In 2018, he was on the road for 14 days to fly this traject. (from 25.03 until 08.04)
Image

I think we can conclude that Karl - if everything is fine with him - can probably be expected in Karula Park around the 12th or the 13th of April.
29.03 + 14 (or 15) days = 12.04 (or 13.04)
So still 9 or 10 days to go! :slap:

PS:
A remarkable fact is that the average daily flown distance was almost exactly the same (on this traject) in both years.
219 km/day in 2017 and 218 km/day in 2018. (rounded numbers)
2017: 7187 — 3902 = 3285 / 3285 : 15 = 219 km/day
2018: 7252 — 4205 = 3047 / 3047 : 14 = 217,7 km/day

Thank you Solo.

I'd like to know if black stork are monogamous (translation?) or do they change spouse every year. I didn't find the answer from internet

raija, you're welcome

they are more true to nest - to good nesting area, but that all is enough individual

they are storks who want only the old mate and waiting (too) long time for her/him and another who respected the biological clock, the best time for mating, eggs - to raising of young strong! storklet/s
(without rings it is not credible)

April 4th

Hello, everyone

chrisitz and raija :hi:
Yes, our Kati arrived on the nest this morning, and she accepted the stranger at once!
IF our Karl is OK, he will most probably not arrive in Karula Park before 12.04 or 13.04.

In 2017, Kati arrived on 09.04, and the first egg was laid on 17.04 (8 days after the first mating)
In 2018, Kati arrived on 08.04, and the first egg was laid on 16.04 (8 days after the first mating)

So this year, the first egg will possibly be laid on 12.04!
That's exactly around the time that we can expect Karl to come home... :slap:

 Good afternoon for everyone!

Thanks for all info, maps, tracker-maps, and pictures, also from the nest in Karula!
I am happy for "Uncle" Eedi and all other b-storks who have found their way back home to their forest,
hopefully also Karl the first will come. But... is that female surely Kati?
If so, maybe she first thought the visitor (Karl II) was her Karl the first?
So...if the female is Kati, and if Karl the first is still coming, Karl may get very angry !?!

Maybe Karula returns to the nest sometimes when it's time,
because he left (said goodbye to the nest) from there last (last of the family) in autumn. :D

Treia
I believe that Kati perfectly knew that this Stranger is not Karl.
What counts the most for her, at the moment, is making offsprings, I think.

And I agree, Karl will not be pleased with this Stranger on his nest.
