good morning!
Inguna and Ina Jaunošāne (in YT chat) noticed two birds flying by from right to left at 10:09 and 10:10. thank you for the observations!

the first bird flew with heavy, slow wingbeat above the treetops so details of the bird were not well visible. this bird could well have been an eagle.

the second bird flew lower and was visible against the dark trees so some details were visible. the bird seemed to have a white tail or rump. the flew by rather fast compared to the first bird. this would suggest that the bird was probably smaller and flew closer to the camera than the first bird. the 2nd bird could have been a jay or a magpie... :puzzled:

i took pictures frame by frame of the second bird. it seems that exactly the tail was white and there were no white spots on the grey wings. the second bird was quite possibly an eagle, too.

both flew to the direction on the Fish Market.

12:09 a female eagle started calling and a male joined her. they were rather near but they were not in the same place: the male was closer to us than the female.
i listened to these calls many times. there was something odd about them... was there a third eagle? another male farther than the first? :puzzled:

hello! :hi:
yesterday the wind was blowing from about north-west (from behind the camera) and at times it was raining snow or sleet which melted away almost as soon as it had fallen.
any way, the cold wind kept blowing from the north side and this was what we woke up with: a winter wonderland.

i have updated the Important events on the front page. is there something important that i have forgotten? and more importantly: have i made mistakes there?

squirrels have been visiting the tree and eaten a lot of the cones during the past days. on Nov 26 they took at least 21 cones during the morning. it's not clear if there was only one squirrel or more.
playlist Nov 26:

on Nov 27 there were at least two squirrels who didn't quarrel with each other (exceptionally; usually squirrels are not friendly with each other). they ate on the tree at the same time, although not very near to each other. this time i counted 34 cones being picked by the squirrels. besides those the squirrels made 8 more trips to the top or to the tips of the branches when they probably picked cones but i could not see the cones.
one of these trips was also the most lively that i've seen: the squirrel jumped from the left branch to the left side of the camera, almost in "our face"!
the funny (and a bit strange) thing about this is that i woke up in the morning a few hours before this jump with a dream where exactly this happened: a squirrel jumped at the camera!

15:47 a male eagle called in the forest rather far.

11:42 - 11:46 two ravens visited the top.
11:42:24 one raven landed on the top and 14 s later another.
they talked and shovelled snow down from the top. 8-)
11:45:55 one raven flew away (visibly).
11:46:07 more snow dropped and there was a soft sound of wings. the other raven flew away.

11:54 more eagle's calls. i think this was the male only. he had something to talk.

14:24:07 a female eagle called very-very-very far. it was barely audible.
you'll need to turn the volume to 11.

14:46:40 again a female eagle's voice from very-very far. turn the volume knob again to south-east as far as it goes.

Dec 9

hello! :hi:

14:28 a black woodpecker was calling far... then 14:28:13 onward i think i heard an eagle calling even farther.

turn the knobs to SE again, as far as they go-
- we Finns say 'knobs to SE' when we want loud. the other way is 'all the way to 11'. that's where SE is, at 11.

The story of Durbert is special and personal. We started following the progress of the family of eagles already in the winter, when they had just started building their nest, and ended in the fall, when the young bird went on its journey. Durberta's progress was followed not only by viewers from Latvia - the events were viewed more than seven million times from more than 100 different countries. Until now, it has been the most popular of all live nature cameras installed in Latvia. The Durbes eagle's nest was of interest not only to researchers - it revealed the magic of the world of birds to people who were not particularly interested in birds until then. In Internet forums, it was able to bring together groups of like-minded people who not only sympathized, but also asked questions, sought answers and certainly learned a lot. Thanks to Imanta, one of the "forumians", for this book!

Ornithologist Jānis Ķuze
... well, and memories of Durbe and Robert came back and of course, I can't forget the little devil (Durberta).
We know Durbe is no longer alive (that was very painful for me). Robert, probably, neither but I hope with all my heart that the little devil is still alive.
I've watched this video countless times... :D

8:41 the eagles either were far or perhaps the wind blew partly their voices away. they sounded a bit louder towards the end of the call.

8:55 it sounded like they were in the same place as earlier.
