9:30:45 kaa-kaa-kaa-ka i think that was a real eagle. maybe. ... was not! soon after the kaa-kaa a crow called far and then a jay for a rather long time. 8-)

9:36 Liz heard both a male and a female calling.
edit: i noticed later (14:45) that at 9:36:08 a big dark bird flew high in sky from left and then over the meadow to the forest in the back. about 20 s later the male and the female called. they were closer. i think that the bird was either a raven or a crow.
here's a longer version of the video with the bird and the calls.

9.43 again an eagle's call softly (?far?) and also crow's calls.
i think this was a fake eagle again, and not very far.

9:48:28 gllong! a raven flew over our tree.
gllong! this time farther.

the stream seems to be stable now. thank you Jānis & Jānis & Liz! :2thumbsup:

10:01 a bird flew over again. that was a raven who landed on our top. after ½ min the raven flew away calling a few times on the way.

10:06:00 a bird flew by the top of the spruce on the right. at the same time a crow was calling. 4 s later another bird called, too. i think that the second bird was a fake eagle.

10:14 more bird's voices which were either fake or real eagle's calls. i think it's more likely that they were fake rather than real.

13:35 a male and a female eagle called rather far. the male's voice was louder. i hardly could hear the female but i think her voice was there, too.

good morning!
the stream seems to be normal, good! (yesterday afternoon the stream went from bad to worse starting at 15:54)

the camera started at 7:10 and Venus was blinking in the sky from behind the poop branch.
7:30 onward also clouds moved away and the Venus came well visible.

8:28 a male called nearby. a long call.

8:33 both a male and a female and also a raven called. it sounded like the raven was closest, flying over the nest.

13:45 mega2 saw and eagle fly to our tree between breaks, but then the stream made a strike. the eagle landed on the left side. when the stream jumped forward again the eagle was gone.

14:41 the stream began again.

Happy Christmas and Merry Boxing Day!
Image

the camera went into hibernation yesterday afternoon at 13:27 and has not been working at all since then. i have sent a message to both Jānis about it yesterday but they are either not able to fix it or they are having a well-deserved holiday. yesterday was a stormy day with hard wind and rain. almost all the snow which was fresh in the forest on Christmas eve had melted by the time the camera went off.

roosaluristaja has identified the bird we saw visiting here some time ago. he says that the bird was a common buzzard Buteo buteo after all.

roosaluristaja is a member in our forum, too. here his name is vainamoinen. i trust his identification because he is a professional ornithologist/biologist (if i have understood correct).

GT is again working in a funny way. it says that peļu klijāns is "the sound of mice".

MĀRIS has received a message from Jānis Ķ.
GT'ed:
I received a message from Jānis Ķuze that it is not possible to relive (restart?) the live broadcast from a distance, it is said that you have to travel to watch it on site, but he will be able to do that only next week. We can only hope that the bug will be fixed. Since we will be without Durbertville at the end of the year.
https://forums.dabasdati.lv/viewtopic.p ... 23#p381123
so the problem was not easy to solve. now we'll really have to be patient. :slap:

the last day of this year is turning towards the evening... Image

the camera is still not running but the "carrier wave" of the stream is still on in the YT. i have kept the recording on all the time because i wanted to see if the stream would randomly start even for a short time time. it hasn't and so i have captured a lot of black screen, sometimes decorated with green or even grey rectangles of different sizes.

Jānis will go to the forest next year (next week?) to see if he can find out what's wrong with the transmission. hopefully he and his co-workers can fix it. the fault may not be in the camera itself. there may be something wrong in the data transmission from the nest to the nearest link tower and the receiver there or anything else. or maybe a raccoon dog or a beaver chewed the electric cable at or from the power station and broke it?! who knows.
i don't think i can even imagine all possibilities. (i think i saw once a hand-drawn picture of the camera and data system. where was that...?)

the situation with the nest (read: no nest) is so uncertain still that i shall not begin a new topic for the next year yet. i'll do it if and when it will become necessary. hopefully it will be here at Durbe, but who knows. maybe Milda has decided about a new place and maybe Jānis will find it and move the camera there.

any way i think that Milda has to make up her mind about the nest very soon. maybe she'll have to seize some other bird's old nest? many birds of prey use old crow's nests but those are probably too small for eagles.
maybe an osprey's nest? or a stork's nest? if she'll not have a nest she'll have to drop her eggs just on any tussock somewhere in the forest and that's not good prognosis for success.
(i don't quite believe that she'll be able to cross her tail between her legs and not become fertilized... :whistling: and even without fertilization she'll produce eggs any way.)

i tried to find the picture by Mr B of the data transmission system but the only thing referring to it was a remark which i had written on March 5th 2016, thanking brachux alias Mr B alias Jānis Rudzītis for giving us a flow chart of the data transmission.
viewtopic.php?p=444499#p444499
i can't find the chart itself. :banghead:
.... then i went to look for the picture in DDF. there i found a post by brachux, where the picture has been:
https://forums.dabasdati.lv/viewtopic.p ... 993#p66993
the picture is not there, it's gone! :faint:

... but i don't think it would be valid any more. in 2016 the stream was running via EENET. that has been changed since to Youtube. ... or maybe the beginning of the system is still similar? i think i remember that the camera stream was sent as mobile phone signal to the nearest link tower (probably the one which we sometimes see in the far right edge of the picture). from there the signal travels via the normal route as any phone or internet connection.

as a by-product in my search i found some other nice pictures from the nest location. i have posted these in the introductions on the topics of previous years. i think they are rather nice to look at.
2019: pictures of the tree top, especially the top in front of us, the one where eagles often visit:

2020: pictures of the power station, the nest tree and under the tree
viewtopic.php?p=704648#p704648
2021: a picture of an earlier no-nest and pictures of the surroundings with the names of the big trees there.

edit ( on Feb 15)

it seems that some action is still going on at the nest tree although the eagles still haven't really started to rebuild the nest. they have brought a few sticks which probably have dropped. yesterday we also saw a mating at the nest tree (on Feb 14, the Valentine's Day, how appropriate! )

so i thought it's time to start a new topic for the new season. welcome!
