Pērle rises from the egg from time to time, fluffs her feathers, and airs the nest.

At 9:11, things are a bit restless for a few minutes. It seems the jay pair has returned to the scene. We haven't heard from them in a long time.
Well, now they can be heard active again, and H44 is also calling excitedly.

Pērle observes everything.

09:22 Pērle calls from the edge of the nest. Then returns to the nest.

'25 H44 and a magpie is heard.
It seems the goshawk pair's neighbors have arranged to meet today. :whistling:

09:29 H44 swings up into the nest from below. He brings a pine branch.

Pērle jumps into the side branches and H44 climbs into the bowl, then onto the nest edge.
H44

'31 He leaves the nest again and Pērle jumps back into the nest.

Just a minute later, H44 brings the next branch.

09:49 Pērle leaves the nest
'54 and returns with a pine branch

09:57 - 10:09 She climbs onto the side branch

10:47 And Pērle climbs onto the side branch again.

A woodpecker calls... :innocent:

11:05 Pērle leaves the nest tree.
'06 H44 takes over guarding the nest, bringing a branch.
He builds and pushes at the edge of the nest.

A woodpecker calls...
10:30/31 Nest 2
Sparrows carry nesting material out of the nest, and the woodpecker also briefly flies through. :2thumbsup:

11:34 Pērle runs out of the nest, jumping over one side branch to the other.
Image

Image

She appears alarmed.
H44 also makes two short, clear calls, without melody or frills.

Pērle stands 'ready' and raises her feathers.
Image

I couldn't figure out what triggered this. :puzzled:
Pērle also soon relaxes and returns to the nest after a few minutes.

12:25 The pair communicates - Pērle out of the nest and H44 from outside into the nest.

12:37 The woodpecker sings to Pērle. He seems to be staying close and calls, very relaxed. :innocent:

13:46 H44 takes over the nest
'48 out *Mating

Then there will be trouble.
14:19 A strange female invades the territory, and she is very persistent.

Lots of stress for Pērle, lots of unpleasant sounds indicating physical contact, and the strange female advances all the way to the nearby tree.

14:54 Female T38 enters nest 2.
Brings prey.
Image

Probably just a female looking for a nest and a mate. She's not coming in a belligerent manner. Not yet. It's simply the wrong place for the single female.

Did she help herself to Pērle and H44's reserve or bring the food herself?

Anyway... unfortunately, one female is too many right now.

Pērle will sort it out, but the stress might not be good. Although I think it hopefully won't have a major impact.

This is a tough day for Pērle.
The female returns to Nest 2 at 3:15 PM.

15:29 What we've all only heard but barely seen so far – the females are confronting each other.

T38 actually penetrates Nest 1.

Pērle pushes her out.
Well, the general literature says that the claws are the primary weapon.

I don't think so.
Not here.
The claws should be the last weapon. They're too dangerous if the opponent uses them as well.
I think Pērle took down T38 with her wings.

Unbelievable, yet fascinating... this young little girl. She still has drops on her chest, so she's barely/less than a year old, and so tough...

15:40 Pērle returns to the nest.

She can barely shake off her tension. She stands frozen.
She pulls the piece of food that T38 lost in the fight in the nest and gnaws on it.

H44 chirps from outside.
15:50 and chirps and chirps ...
An endless number of gentle sounds for his female. The sign that he's there. ♡

I need to go through everything again.
I saw H44 in all the hustle and bustle when he slips in the nest . I just don't remember when.

I was hoping it would be a quiet day...

16:21 Pērle is still standing.

17:01 Pērle pulls the food closer again, now eating more.
Image

'10 The piece of food is now carried out of the nest.

17:23 Pērle returns to the nest, arranges twigs, and covers the egg.

H44 can be heard throughout.

Nest 2

18:23 Pērle appears in the nest with the food.
Image

'24 jumps onto a nearby branch and leaves the food behind.

18:27 - 41 H44 jumps out of the branches where Pērle disappeared earlier. He takes a good meal from the carcass and then leaves the nest without the food.

18:27 Meanwhile, Pērle returned to Nest 1.

Hello Polly and all. :hi:

Congratulations to the couple, they have already laid two eggs. :loveshower: :loveshower:

This year at the beginning I thought the egg laying was going to be delayed but H44 appeared at the right time and with more than a month the dates have been met.

Eggs are usually laid in just under 3 days if all goes well. From the cameras of previous years we have seen that 68 to 70 hours is the normal time, so hopefully we will see the eggs laid during the day this year.

There is news about the old territory of Dzirciem , it seems that there is a pair settled there which means that H21 may have had some problem or that when they were caught with the construction works started the pair got separated and now these new goshawks have arrived on time.

On the other hand in Nederland the goshawk nest has been occupied by Egyptian Geese which already have eggs although the camera is not active.

Best regards

Crazy, right?
Yeah, it's a shame, though. Team H would have had a chance if the area hadn't been so unsettled.

U43 was already here, too - but H44 landed here, while U43 is now in its nest.

March 24th

I'll just summarize yesterday.
(The forum was difficult to access and would have required many hours of documentation.)

The day was quieter than the day before yesterday— so, no trouble.
Special moments included the day's visit to Nest 2.

Nest 2

06:22 Pērle entered the nest first, but H44 was also there, as to hear.

Then he slipped into the nest himself, but soon jumped onto a nearby, higher branch. Pērle continued feeding.

'30 Pērle also jumped back into the tree.

And then it was time for Egg #2.

Pērle seemed to have little difficulty.
15:20 The female lifts herself out of the nest bowl, and she's obviously going to lay this egg quite well.

Barely any wriggling or twisting.
An uncomplicated egg? So it seems.
