Recently, we have been thinking about animated gifs.
There are things we need to consider when making them, and choosing which pics to put together to make a gif.
The reasons we don't have animated avatars and signatures also need to be considered when we make gifs.
Many people suffer from what we call photo-sensitive conditions - commonly, migraine, epilepsy etc, but there are other conditions which make bright lights, bright colours and flashing, blinking images visually uncomfortable. If there is a frequent fast change from dark to light, sky to trees,, it can be unpleasant to view.

Most of our cameras are fixed and show the same background constantly. Really, it is only with the Eagles Feeding Ground camera that we need to be careful about the images which are shown as gifs. I haven't seen any "difficult to view" gifs on this forum in recent days, but as it has been mentioned by some members, we thought we should make members aware of the problems caused by some animated gifs.

Gifs can give more information that a still image and most of us enjoy them, and enjoy making them. I hear that there are some forums which ban them, completely! We don't want to do that, either.

The topic Petition about Nimetu has been changed to a standard topic, so it sinks down the list of topics for now.
If the situation changes or is Madis wants us to make another effort, it can be revived again, any time.

SUPPORT OWL RESARCH AND CONSERVATION IN LATVIA!

HELP LATVIAN OWL CONSERVATION SOCIETY!

As You know it is bad situation with funds for owl research and protection projects in Latvia. Now it is known that also for next year our government will not give any money for owls. Now our project is on an internet page where people can help with voting. VOTING DOES NOT COST ANYTHING! Total 15 projects are in this voting and only first 5 will be supported. Vote for projects continues until 28th February. We ask for just 3000 lats which is about 4100 EUR. The money would go to breeding owl monitoring in Latvia for all 2013 field season, covering fuel expanses and materials for new nestboxes. As well as funding will support migrating owl camps during spring at Kolka Cape and during autumn at Pape ornithological reseach station, covering accommodation for volunteers.

Yes, that's why I wrote they wanted both! We have to take it as it comes in any case! And his choice of name suggests a fondness for nature!

You are right, Bea, Franz von Assisi is the patron of the animals.
But I dare to doubt that the church with a pope Franziskus will do something for the animals – has the church ever done anything for the animals?

I hope the new Pope can clear out the big swamp in the Vatican.
