Greater and Lesser Spotted Eagles

A new camera for us - this nest, in Harju County, Estonia, was the nest of male Tõnn, who used this nest since 2016. Sadly, Tõnn, did not return from Spain in 2020. We don't know what happened to him. His mate was Tiiu. It is likely that the female on this nest is Tiiu.

Tiiu - Greater Spotted Eagle (GSE) female returned from migration on April 14 this year.
Lesser Spotted Eagle (LSE) was seen on this nest for the first time, on April 20.
Hybridisation happens, because of shortage of available individuals of GSE around here.

EGGS
Incubation period is 41 - 45 days.
The first egg was seen on April 25.
Second egg laid on April 28, 2023

This male could be new (he has common non readable ring on right leg).

In a few days we must find a name for him. Not yet! As usual, start to think of Estonian names but this time, specifically male names. No need to look for gender-neutral names. We know he is HE. :loveshower:

Edit May 8, 2023 - Following three polls to choose possible names for the male LSE, the final vote named him TAAVI

Susanne asked an important question -
https://looduskalender.ee/forum/viewtop ... 09#p897609
THIS is exactly what I would like to know. We all know that cainism is obligatory in LSEs, but not so in GSEs. What about the hybrid situation: which behaviour prevails? Mother's or Father's?

Urmas commented "Camera may stop unpredictable, because of YouTube's "who knows what the problem". Like it happens with other cameras too. Some have that problem more frequently. No idea, why it happens. Not always somebody could repair it manually."

Urmas sent a photo taken from the other side of the nest, by drone.

Hi, Hellem.
Then I have misunderstood an e-mail from Urmas, who asks me to correct the spelling to Tiuu.
I must check with him.

PS - I changed the spelling In IceAge's post.

About audio sound. Sound level is quite low (compare to other cameras) and sometimes voices are weird, because there is probably some kind of audio pre-amplifier problem. That needs to check on place, but is not possible when birds are on nest. This could be also some audio codec dissonance, we are not good enough specialists for all these technical aspects...

Now I have corrected the female's name, again. She is Tiiu. If you find that I have missed one of the Tiuu's please tell me!
