Red deer Punahirv Cervus elaphus
The deer camera was ordered by RMK, the Estonian State Forest Management Centre, and installed in Saaremaa in the first days of the great thaw. On Tuesday and Wednesday a splendid male deer (stag or hart) visited the additional feeding ground for deer. Saaremaa was snow-free until today and there is plenty of food and more in the forest. The location is well suited in all ways for observing the deer and the camera will be open to a wider audience as soon as there is more to see. Movements in the recording are a little faster than in real life in the woods.
The red deer of St Hubertus, bishop and patron saint of hunters, is depicted since the 7th century with a golden cross between the magnificent antlers.
