An international white stork census takes place this year. Because of this we installed a web camera at a Lääne county white stork nest. It will monitor the growth and hopefully successful fledging of a three-chick clutch.
The Estonian Ornithological society (EOÜ) invites all bird friends to help with mapping white stork nests. This is one of the EOÜ’s long-term monitoring projects. A simple web application has been developed for the purpose, easy to use for all:
www.eoy.ee/valgetoonekurg
www.eoy.ee/valgetoonekurg
Data on the location of white stork nests and the nesting outcome can be entered on the web page. At present the number of white storks in Estonia is estimated at 4000 - 5000 nesting pairs. As one result of the census this year we will learn how many actually nest here.

The web camera was installed by Kotkaklubi (Eagle Club) and Eesti Ornitoloogiaühing (Estonian Ornithological Society) with support from the Keskkonnainvesteeringute Keskus (Estonian Environmental Investment Centre). The nest is monitored with a Mobotix camera (Estonian representative Beta Grupp OÜ). The camera stream arrives from Lääne county to Tartu and the EENet server by way of the Televõrk network. More information about what is happening in the nest is in the Looduskalender forum.
Your connection to the camera server can be tested here.
