Young boar
Farm work is in full swing. Some farmers have already planted their potatoes, others plan to do so within the next few days. Grain has still not been sown in fields that would not have carried agricultural machinery yet because of the rainy spring.
Boars keep attentive eyes on the farmers’ doings. In fields where a tractor roared in daytime boar tracks appear during night. We have to do with reconnaissance scouts.
Grain sowings provide nothing of particular interest. It will be worthwhile to return when the crop has flowered and the grains have reached milky ripeness stage. Pea and bean fields are sensations. At least similar attention is devoted to maize fields.
It is not known exactly how the information spreads but boars gather from nearby as well as far off. If they are not interrupted they can clean pea, bean and maize fields out of seeds.
Potato furrows are studied very carefully: boars prefer the same varieties that people like. They don’t eat much potatoes: raw potatoes are slightly toxic. Being omnivores, boars have a digestive tract largely similar to that of humans.
