Deer tracks in snow.
Deer grazing in woodside meadow.
The roe buck as well as female deer have visited the Forest camera feeding ground and got nice extra food there. Otherwise for now deer are limited to branches of trees and bushes, or old grass in meadows. The time of fresh grass is still far away.
As long as there is snow on the ground it is worthwhile looking for the night-time sleeping places of deer when you are walking near a peaceful forest fringe. The roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) is a quite numerous animal here – according to some sources there are nearly 40 000 deer in Estonia – so finding their beds is just a matter of searching. Best is to look in areas with plenty of bushes and shrubs, at outskirts of woods.
In winter the animals move in groups. The flocks keep together until spring, or the birth of fawns in May.
