Good habitats are watersides with a forest "at the back” – so getting nutrients both from the water and from what seeps down from the forest. The loosestrife flowers splendidly, the golden yellow flowerheads shine at twilight. The stem of the plant is a little hairy, the leaves are similar to those of the willowherb, and it grows up to a height of one metre in good localities. In dense forests the plant doesn’t flower.
