Male Karl arrived to feed the young storks

Last night in the evening viewers noticed that the brown-coloured transmitter of  one of the juveniles caused more ”agitation” in the adults than the black ”rucksack” of the other one.

Today in the morning the male cautiously circled the nest and the juveniles loudly begged for food from him – as usual when one of the adults is noticed in the vicinity.

At three o’clock the young storks, observing the doings of the ringers under the trees, decided to leave the nest …

The Eagle Club birdmen had planned a serious working day. In addition to ringing, both young storks would get ”backpacks” with radio transmitters.

The image from Osprey camera 2 disappeared the day before yesterday during the heavy rain. Hopefully the equipment will be restored within a few days

The chicks, hatched on June 4, 5 and 7, will be one month old today calculating with an average of the hatching dates.

Male bird serves as single parent during daytime

The male has become a companion to the already three weeks old juveniles, or someone under whose wings they can hide their heads in rainy weather; there is no longer room for more. We did not actually expect to see the birds in action around the nest for such a long time. In any case an interesting experience.

How far away might the location selected by the female for laying a new clutch be?

Female Miina leaves the nest with an alarm call to drive off the invader

Immediately before three o’clock it was raining and female Miina covered her nestlings. A minute before three o’clock just as the rain decreased the goshawk attack took place; attentive forum members recorded it.

The same goshawk has very likely been flying past the nest earlier so that it knew the layout and could plan the attack. Miina has left the nest earlier too with alarm calls but the cause of danger has been too far away or outside the camera’s field of view.

It is ever more difficult to find the birds that blend so well with nature in the heath forest

Finding the birds that blend so well in nature  has become more difficult with the movable camera already since several days.

The male covers the juveniles during daytime and keeps busy with them. Where is the female?

Quite likely she lays a second clutch of eggs nearby. If  the camera operator finds the female in the vicinity there is reason to keep the camera here.

The fish camera is now located in the Keila-Joa River at the mouth of the Keila River in a fast-flowing cut: the sea begins at about a hundred meters from here. A kilometre upstream the 6,1 m high Keila waterfall is an insurmountable obstacle for migratory fish coming from the sea.
