The first of the osprey chicks was hatched in the night

Looking back in time we see how the nest life of Irma and Ivo has changed. On June 4 we noticed the first hatching chick in the nest.

Male Ivo as well as the young osprey Daisi, probably a girl, have left on their migration. For two days the solar panels could not provide the webcam system with power, so the departure may have been on Monday or Tuesday. On Wednesday when the camera started working again there was a hope that  Ivo might come to revisit the nest – this has happened quite frequently. The stormy day yesterday blew away the last hope of a final meeting.

The young ospreys are two and a half month old by now.

So loudly the food begging goes about. Since last week male Ivo is left as the food provider for the young ones, but he copes very well with the fishing.

On Monday Ülo Väli ringed the osprey nestlings, commenting as he worked.

The voices of the adults are audible in the background but ospreys are not particularly sensitive to disturbance. Female Irma returned to the nest at 13.25

The early morning video shows that the third egg (even if behind the fish to start with) is in the nest.

What happened then since we see only two osprey chicks in the nest?

Since Thursday night there are two chicks in the osprey nest. As the first one was hatched on June 7th it was presumed that it would take a little longer to the next hatching: the eggs were laid on May 2nd, 5th and 8th, but on Thursday night there were already two ospreys-to-be.

A little past 5 o’clock it happened – the osprey chick was hatched. It may take a couple of days to the next hatching.
