For the first time we saw the plundering visits of mallards to the trout spawning ground three  years ago – the images were quite rare. But the sounds of ducks near the web camera at the spawning ground were heard already a year earlier.

The water level in the trout spawning place is really very low. The frog had probably crept into a turf at the brink, a little higher up than the spawning area to spend the winter but the cold weather and ice cover forced it to search downstream for deeper water where it would be possible to dig into the bottom mud once more …

Catching such images is not common. Wintering frogs have plenty of enemies

In the web camera we can once more follow the activities of wild brown or river trout (Salmo trutta morpha fario) in a short section of a small stream which is also the only suitable spawning area in the stream flowing through the ponds.

This year the otter visited the spawning ground at intervals of a few days.

The spawning period of the river trout has come to an end. Although the water level has been high in all Estonian water bodies this year, several tens of female river trout spawned in camera view and slightly upstream of it. Some fishes became familiar ”by face” to constant watchers.

The spawning period is here. The water level is not a problem for the salmonids anywhere this year.

For the salmonids the most important activities of the year have begun, and we try to share the images with everyone with an interest in fish and fishing. The camera was installed yesterday, connection was established today. We will see how it will survive the predicted storm at night.
