I asked seal researcher Ivar Jüssi who visited the isle on March 1 for observations when the peak of the mating period of the greys might come.

The female suckles the pup for about three weeks; then the females come into heat. On March 1 it could be seen from the fur of the pups that suckling had finished but moulting of the pups had not started yet – three females were in heat. This morning a seal pair romped in the shallow shore water. The peak of the heat period should arrive towards the end of next week (i e week beginning on Monday March 6).
