The tawny owl chicks, in order of size

On average two weeks have passed since the hatching of the tawny owl chicks. The day is already long and the time for the adults to get food becomes ever shorter. Klaara goes out from the nest at about ten o’clock pm so for hunting prey to feed the growing and hungry chicks about 6 hours are left. From early morning to late evening, 18 hours, is fasting time for the nest trunk inhabitants.

The mother no longer feeds the chicks. The prey is left in the nest and the owlets, of different sizes, fight for it between themselves. While a week ago the chicks kept together to warm each other then now it is a relentless fight for food - there is no ”brotherly love”…

Within a few weeks the owlets will have left the nest.
