At the evening flight outside, at seven o’clock, there was a third egg in the nest hollow. Very  rarely five eggs are found in a tawny owl clutch (literature indicates a possibility of up to eight eggs), more often there are three eggs here: round, white ones, the size of a ping-pong ball.

Up to now Klaara has laid an egg on March 10, 12 and 15. For tawny owls incubation starts after the laying of the first egg since they keep hidden in daytime or spend a long time in the nest. Those who have observed the doings of Klaara know that after having laid the first eggs Klaara was absent from the nest at night for long periods  probably in order to have the owl chicks hatched with as small time differences as possible (when the eggs have been laid) but the above is just our opinion.

On flying out Klaara informs male Klaus of her arrival with a call. Of course it would be nice if Klaus were already waiting for his lady with something delicate. Today Klaara was back in the nest in less than an hour.

We have time to discuss the exterior of tawny owls, their feeding habits, where male Claus spends the nights and many other things  during the incubation.
