White-tailed eagle Merikotkas Haliaeëtus albicilla
Yesterday morning first-time mother Anna had to feed the newly hatched chick for the first time. There was no doubt that the instincts developed over the millennia would not start working, but sometimes it may happen that a bond between the female and the chicks is not created. Today things already run nicely, but a good thing that no new chicks have hatched in the nest…
In the beginning of the feeding and also during the feeding the female secretes abundant saliva from her beak. According to researchers the hatched chicks receive necessary enzymes or ferments by the spit, ie organic compounds that initiate and accelerate the digestion metabolism. The beak of the bird does not just "water" on seeing food.
We have already been able to follow the life of white-tailed eagles for several years, and seen how different all observed adult birds have been with respect to behaviour, character and temperament.
Uku takes the maximum from his fishing periods, the food in the nest will last for many days. He fulfils his parental obligations impeccably.
