On Sunday afternoon (June 25th) the hatching of the chicks could be watched in the nest in the tree trunk. It is surprising that the chicks hatched just then, since the great tit laid the last egg, the eighth one, in the nest only on June 16th. So the great tit started the incubation in this nest many days before a full clutch had been laid, and the chicks in this nest will not hatch all at the same time but in the course of a couple of days..

Vastkoorunud pojad vajavad esimesel paaril päeval soojendamist, mistõttu istub emaslind aeg-ajalt pesal. Osa munakoortest viskab emaslind pesast välja, osa aga sööb oma kaltsiumivajaduse kompenseerimiseks ära. Toiduks toovad vanalinnud poegadele esimestel elupäevadel kõige pisemaid selgrootuid (näiteks väikesed röövikud).
