The chevron
Chevron Lillakas öövaksik Eulithis testata
The chevron occurs in the whole of Estonia and is quite common. We can meet it in conifer or mixed conifer forests, thickets, gardens and elsewhere too from mid-July to the beginning of September. In the rainy weather of last weekend the moths did not of course fly much.
Although several similar species fly here in Estonia the chevron is easily recognizable by its colour and pattern. It is active at night and often comes to an artificial light. In daytime it manages, with some trouble, to take flight in the forest from the feet of a berry-picker.
The caterpillars mainly live on bilberries and willows. Eggs remain over winter.
