In the evening the owl chick could be heard but not seen yet.

Exactly one month passed to the hatching of the first tawny owl chick.

The next eggs  Klaara laid on April 2 and 5.

Male Klaus came to check the nest trunk to see of the first of the chicks might have hatched – alas, not yet.

We rarely happen to see Klaus.

We will look a  little while back in time on what has happened and is happening in the  tawny owl  nest hollow, and briefly forward.

Klaara laid the first egg into the nest hollow in the trunk on March 30th, the next ones on  April 2nd and 5th: so it works for tawny owls, with intervals of a couple of days. It seems that the egg clutch is complete.

When evening begins wings have to be stretched for a bit.

Observing the peaceful home life in the owl nest we can see that female Klaara has three eggs in the nest in the tree trunk.

So the first egg on March 30th, the second one on April 2nd and the third on April 5th. Let us hope that the clutch is complete

Klaara’s third egg in the nest trunk

In the evening of the warm spring day Klaara had laid the third egg as expected.

So the first egg on March 30th, the second one on April 2nd and on April 5th the third egg.

The Estonian Ornithological Society chose the tawny owl as the bird of the year for 2009. Since then we have watched the breeding of a tawny owl pair – Klaus and Klaara - nesting in Lääne County. We are not quite convinced that we still have to do with the same Klaus and Klaara since from the exterior it is not possible to tell birds from different years apart.

The day before yesterday the largest owl chick went out to discover the world, today the middle one. The smallest may still take a few more days – we will see.
