Brandt’s bat, whiskered bat and Natterer’s bat are rare bat species in Estonia. We can meet them flying about in parks, forests and around water bodies.

All three are sedentary and in Estonia  use manor cellars and large caves for wintering.
Of the three species the easiest to identify is the Natterer’s bat, with long ears and an S-shaped calcar, or spur.

The two remaining species are more difficult to distinguish. The Brandt’s bat and whiskered bat are very similar species. They can best be differentiated from each other by their set of teeth.
