 Dear bird friends!
Once more calendar spring is here and the Small Bird Feeder camera closes. As always we are happy about the birds that came to eat and all bird friends who have been sharing the birds’ doings and life. Many thanks to Elisa and EENet who made the high-quality transmission possible and to BalSnack and Neil Ilves, from Järvamaa, for wholesome delicacies to serve the birds. On the other side of the screen a great number of viewers, in Estonia and abroad, have followed the doings of the birds.
Feeding the birds will continue as usual until the snow is gone.
This winter we tested wider angle optics in the camera. That made it necessary to install the devices closer to the feeder. A little perch was added too, to get small birds closer to the camera. To keep pigeons away we set well branched twigs at the feeder and the trick worked like magic – until December 5th when the first pigeons finally worked out how to press through the twigs. The steadily growing snowdrift contributed to their success.
A new species found the feeder this winter, for once unnoticed by the attentive forum people. On March 14th a migrating flock of rooks landed at the bird feeder and also came to the perch to peck at seeds one by one!

Until we meet again at the bird feeder next winter,
Your Loodusemees – a.k.a. Mr Birdfeeder – and Looduskalender.
