On Sunday, the 24th of August, we went to Latvia to watch how things were going for our acquaintance from storkcamland, Mr. Middle. Transmitter signals for the past six days have come from the same area—which made us a bit suspicious.

But we arrived according our map, and Mr. Middle could be seen from the middle of the road. He was looking for something to eat.

He obviously favors soil which contains a lot of clay collected from road construction—it was spread evenly over one hectare of ground which is now sparsely covered with vegetation.
Middle quite often found something edible there. In addition, he used a pipe next to the ditch which was partly filled with water. The situation with the stork's transmitter seemed quite good—he flew without any obstruction and didn't appear at all hungry. This is the way they learn independent living.

Unfortunately, we didn't meet Miss Little or any other black stork in the region.
