Grass snake in tree

Photo and story by Lauri Nebel
Translation: Liis
Grass snake   Nastik     Natrix natrix
The fact that our largest snake is good at climbing is well known but a photo of a grass snake climbing in a conifer is rare.

Lauri has his summer home in Matsirannas in Läänemaa, about a kilometer from the seashore  and the grass snake was climbing in the only spruce in his apple orchard . The mating period is ending but the owner has noticed suitors for several days.
