The spring has been exceptionally wintery and the arrival of migrating birds has been delayed. Because of this
Kotkaklubi did not install the web camera at the lesser spotted eagle nest until on April 17th.
We have been able to follow the doings of the lesser spotted eagle pair from 2008 onwards. The nesting area in Jõgevamaa has provided the lesser spotted eagles with very good breeding conditions. This is shown by the fact that, beginning from the year of the nest’s discovery (2002) and until present, nine eaglets have fledged. Lesser spotted eagles Eha and Koit are back from Africa, the nest is renovated and probsbly the first egg will be laid in the nest in the next few days …
The breeding success of lesser spotted eagles is characterised by cyclic variations, which are generally associated with the abundance or scarcity of the main prey (rodents) in different years. The past year, 2012, was very successful for lesser spotted eagles – in nearly three-quarters of the nests a chick fledged. The average breeding success over the last 20 years has been 50%; in the worst year (2003) there was a chick only in every fifth nest. Forecasting is a thankless task but, studying the changes in breeding success up to now, it may be that the present year will not be easy for those birds of prey that feed on small rodents. In this case only the pairs using the best feeding territories will manage to succeed.
From the forest the signal reaches by way of the Mikrotik aerials the tower located at a distance of eight kilometres, and from there goes into the
Televõrgud fibre optic alcable. Televõrgud carry the transmitted signal into the
EENet server where decoding and distribution of the image to viewers takes place. The system parts in the forest are powered by solar panels.
