Daytime rest

Asleep

Wild boar       Metssiga      Sus scrofa
We notice the arrival of the boars in the webcam in early evening . At least two herds visit the Ilmatsalu feeding ground.
For "daytime  rest“ they shelter somewhere close to the feeding ground – in a dense thicket, a young spruce forest, a dense reed bank, whatever is at hand... The base of large spruces whose lowest branches touch the ground suits well for a ”boar’s nest” where it is pleasant to sleep away the daylight time side by side, and with stomachs  full..

Sleeping place of sow with three-four piglets

The sleeping places of a boar herd are at distances of 30 to 70 metres from each other – for the sake of safety within sight and hearing distance.

The leader sow can weigh 80 up to 100 kilos. Young boars have joined the herd; they were driven off from the herd during the mating period and had to manage on their own or in a small gang for some months by their own wits.
