New Camera

This year the Winter White-tailed Eagle Feeding Ground Camera starts a little later than in previous years. The camera was installed on December 8, with the assistance of Tiit and Joosep, but we only managed to get the sound in working order in the new year, with the help of Beta Group.

Since the El Hondo Nature Park (in Spain's Alicante province) is still closed to guests, there have been no first-hand reports of Tõnn's whereabouts. But Tõnn's backpack's GPS transmitter works despite the problems in Spain, and we know that he's been mostly in the northern part of the El Hondo wetlands and only made long flights elsewhere on a couple of occasions. Fortunately, the storms which hit Spain a week ago didn't have a significant impact on our young eagle. His activities during that time were quite normal.

The El Hondo wetlands appear this way when viewed from the west:

In the yonder treetops, Tõnn might sit and survey his surroundings (together with a wintering Booted Eagles).

Tõnn's flights outside the El Hondo Nature Park to the north and southwest are likely connected to a search for other wetlands, but obviously there aren't better places to find. It's though that El Hondo belongs to Spain's three most valuable natural areas. Tõnn's whereabouts this year can be seen on the Google Earth map below:
