Long-tailed Tit.

  Long-tailed Tit Aegithalos caudatus

Long-tailed tits can be recognized at once: they have very long tails, just as the name says. They cannot be mistaken for any other of our birds: the tail of the bird is at least as long as the whole body and head of the little bird.

The long-tailed tit belongs to the Aegithalidae family, the rest of our tits to the true tits’ family, Paridae. But on branches and twigs the long-tailed tit clings with as much agility as any other tits.

The long-tailed tit may be seen in winter as well as in summer. During the cold months they roam in coppices and sparsely wooded forests, so now may be the time to go looking for them around bare trees. At times they appear in parks and other woodland areas.
