There are no direct signs of spring as yet in the frosty air, not even indirect ones except that the days are longer, but some solitary skylarks have been encountered already, starting from the last days of February.
 
The plumage of skylarks is brownish, underparts light. Darker streaks can be seen at the crop, back and crown area. The latter is adorned with a small crest. The looks of female and male birds are very similar. The meagre food now is taken from the weed seeds that have spilled on the snow. As the snow melts life becomes a little easier ...
