February is the last winter month for the white-tailed eagles who pass the winter in Estonia. At the moment two young and two adult birds are staying near the feeding ground.

If the adult birds are local eagles we may see them during the whole of February because the nearest known nesting site is only 5 kilometres from the feeding ground, as a bird flies. The white-tailed eagles from outside will however soon set off on their way back home.

 

Young eagles (1 to 3 years) do not have nesting territories of their own, and so they are not in a hurry anywhere, as long as there is enough food.

 

If February turns out to be as wintry as it is now there will be enjoyable eagle watching in the web camera for several weeks more. But whatever the weather, in March eagle spring begins and the wintertime extra feeding has to end.

 

So this notice is also an early warning that the winter eagle camera will stop in March!
