This year the summer heat arrived so suddenly and quickly that in northern Estonia the peonies (Paeonia) opened already to Midsummer, earlier than usual. So lilacs and peonies flowered at the same time, a rather unusual sight.
The peonies, beloved already by our great-great-great-grandmothers, also mark old farmsteads where the house has disappeared long since. From the peonies it can be guessed where the entrance door and the windows were. Often it is confirmed by a flowering stalk of bleeding heart (Lamprocapnos or Dicentra spectabilis).
